Ardsley High School Girls Basketball Team Advances to State Finals

NEW YORK – In a historic achievement, the Ardsley High School girls basketball team has secured a place in the New York State Final Four, marking the school’s first-ever appearance at this level.

Recent Victory

In a pivotal matchup, the Panthers clinched their spot in the championship by defeating Williamsville South with a score of 47-35. This victory positions them just one win away from claiming the school’s inaugural state championship title.

The championship game is scheduled to take place on Saturday at 7:45 PM in Troy, New York.

Path to the Finals

Ardsley’s remarkable journey to the Final Four began with a commanding win over Johnson City in the regional finals. According to senior forward Iva Corluka, who is set to join St. Bonaventure next season, this achievement holds significant importance: “It’s a really big deal. We’ve been trying to win the section for as long as we can remember.”

Team Dynamics

The Panthers have established a reputation for their strong chemistry and defensive prowess. Corluka emphasized the focus on defense as their defining characteristic: “We come into every game focused on our defense, and I think that’s what makes us stand out.” She noted that this emphasis on defense fuels their offensive opportunities.

Teammate Levy mentioned the extensive preparation involved, saying, “We got our guy, Eva’s dad, putting up the videos…even from the beginning of the season we pick out clips.” This film study allows the team to remain prepared and informed about their opponents.

Beyond their defensive strategy, the bonds shared off the court contribute significantly to their performance. Levy stated, “Our greatest strength is honestly our defense, but it’s also the connections we have on and off the court.”

Coach’s Insight

Head coach Nick Resavy, who has been guiding many of these players since their early youth basketball years, expressed the special nature of this team: “This is kind of the group that made me fall in love with coaching youth basketball, so for them to be the girls that are doing it, it’s pretty special.”
