Costco’s Expansion and Global Growth Strategy
As the largest warehouse membership club in the world, Costco continues to make significant strides in its expansion efforts. This article outlines the company’s latest developments, including upcoming warehouse openings and strategic growth plans.
New Warehouse Openings in 2025
Costco plans to inaugurate nine new warehouse locations globally in 2025, with six of these set to open across the United States. Notable cities included in this expansion are:
- Brentwood, California
- Highland, California
- Prosper, Texas
- Weatherford, Texas
- Genesee County, Michigan
- Sharon, Massachusetts
The anticipated openings in March 2025 will be followed by additional stores in Stuart, Florida, and Minami Alps, Japan, in April. Later in the year, a new location is also planned for Ardeer, Australia, although the exact date has yet to be confirmed.
Projected Growth for Fiscal Year 2025
During a recent earnings call, Costco’s CEO, Ron Vachris, announced, “We continue to project 29 openings during fiscal year ’25, of which three will be relocations and so 26 net new buildings.” Of these, ten warehouses will be established outside of the United States, highlighting Costco’s commitment to international expansion.
Recent Financial Performance
In January 2025, Costco reported net sales of $19.51 billion, marking a 9.2% increase compared to the same month a year prior. This robust financial performance reinforces the company’s position as a leader in the retail sector.
Vachris noted strong performance in existing markets, stating, “We see some great opportunities in Canada and Mexico have been strong countries for us. We continue to see growth opportunities both in Europe and Asia, as well.”
