Brooklyn Man Arrested for Multiple Arson Fires
BROOKLYN – Fire Marshals in New York City have apprehended a 25-year-old man named Unique Cherry, linking him to three distinct arson incidents.

New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Commissioner Robert S. Tucker confirmed that Cherry was involved in fire incidents occurring in New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) properties located in Brooklyn. “I commend our Fire Marshals’ work in apprehending this dangerous individual,” said Tucker.

Investigative Findings
The investigation commenced when the FDNY responded to a fire that broke out at 1430 Bergen Street on January 26, 2025. Upon examining the site, Fire Marshals identified a total of 12 separate fires in the apartment complex.
Connecting the Dots
As the investigation progressed, Cherry emerged as a suspect, revealing his involvement in multiple other fire-related cases. He was ultimately arrested on May 6, 2025, after providing a detailed confession regarding two additional fires set on December 15, 2024, at 1191 Park Place, and another on January 1, 2025, at 162 Troy Ave.
Charges and Prosecution
Cherry faces serious legal repercussions, including three counts of second-degree arson, three counts of third-degree criminal mischief, three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, and three counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez praised the FDNY Fire Marshals for their meticulous investigation, stating, “We will now seek to hold this defendant accountable and continue to work with all law enforcement partners to keep Brooklyn residents safe.”
