Edgar Gasca, the director of economic development and tourism for the area, stated, “We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it. For us, this is an event that does not exist.”
Mayor municipal representatives have urged potential attendees to seek information through official government channels and have reiterated that no inquiries have been made for event approvals.
Concerns from Local Businesses
Local hotels that were mentioned as potential accommodations for the festival have distanced themselves from the organizers. One hotel, Impression Isla Mujeres, commented that they received no communication from the festival’s organizers and are looking into the claims.
Gasca expressed significant doubts about the festival’s potential, citing numerous warning signs. Notably, he highlighted a miscommunication regarding the festival’s location, as the coordinates listed on the festival’s website lead to open water rather than a viable site on land.
Fyre Festival 2 Organizers’ Response
Despite the skepticism, the event’s organizers remain optimistic. A spokesperson from Lostnights, a group involved in planning the festival, asserted that they have secured high-quality venues and accommodations, stating, “Fyre Festival 2 has secured top-tier private venues and hotels in partnership with our local allies who have established communications with the corresponding authorities to ensure full compliance and flawless execution.”
UNIK Travel, another group associated with the festival, has stated they are collaborating with local and state officials to ensure a successful event, although no formal documentation confirming permit applications has been made publicly available.
