Spirit Airlines to Introduce Extra Legroom Seats and Loyalty Program Upgrades

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Spirit Airlines is set to improve its customer experience by offering extra legroom seats and enhancing its Free Spirit Loyalty Program.

New Travel Options: Extra Legroom Seats

The airline will introduce its “Go Comfy” seating option, which provides travelers with an additional four inches of legroom, raising the total pitch to 32 inches. Installation of these extra-legroom seats will commence in June 2025 and is expected to extend to the majority of the fleet by July 2025, with completion slated for 2026.

Booking for the extra legroom seats will start on May 15, with availability for travel beginning July 9.

Enhancements to the “Go Comfy” Option

To facilitate the introduction of these new seats, Spirit Airlines will phase out the blocked middle seat in select configurations. The “Go Comfy” experience will also encompass:

  • Complimentary carry-on baggage
  • No fees for changes or cancellations
  • Priority boarding
  • Reserved space in the overhead bins
  • Complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages

Upgrades to the Free Spirit Loyalty Program

In conjunction with these seating upgrades, Spirit Airlines is also revamping its Free Spirit Loyalty Program, which will now feature several new benefits, including:

  • Use of Free Spirit points across all fare types, with more redemption options to be introduced soon.
  • Complimentary upgrades at boarding for status members and cardholders, subject to availability.
  • From late 2025, Travel More Mastercard holders will benefit from two free checked bags.
  • A new debit card launching in fall will allow users to earn points on their expenditures along with offering travel perks.

Statements from Management

Rana Ghosh, Spirit Airlines’ Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the value of these new offerings, stating, “Spirit’s new premium options offer travelers exceptional value, and we’re creating even more opportunities for Guests to experience them with our new extra-legroom seating option.” Ghosh continued, “We’re also adding more value and perks for our loyalty members at a time when others are taking away benefits, giving our most loyal Guests even more reasons to choose Spirit.”

Conclusion

With these upcoming enhancements, Spirit Airlines aims to provide an improved travel experience focused on comfort and loyalty rewards, setting itself apart in the competitive airline industry.
