Tragic Police Shooting in Newark
NEWARK, NJ – A shooting incident in Newark on Friday night has left one police officer dead and another critically injured.
Incident Overview
The shooting occurred around Carteret Street and Broadway, where witnesses reported hearing more than a dozen gunshots in quick succession.
Casualties
During the altercation, one officer sustained fatal injuries, while another was hit in the leg. Both were promptly transported to University Hospital. One officer was later pronounced dead, whereas the second officer remains in critical condition.

The New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association expressed their sorrow over the loss and the ongoing situation, stating: “We here at the NJ State PBA are heartbroken to share that an officer from Newark PD has made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and another officer is currently fighting for their life in critical condition. Please keep their families, fellow Newark PD officers, and our entire New Jersey law enforcement community in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
Investigation Details
