Octopus Embraces Camera: A Unique Underwater Encounter in Australia
Location: Victoria, Australia
Heartwarming Underwater Moment
A recent dive off the coast of Rye, Victoria, yielded surprising footage when a Maori octopus affectionately hugged the camera of diver Jules Casey. This touching interaction unfolded on April 16, showcasing the captivating relationship between Casey and the marine creature.
Meet Priscilla
Named Priscilla by Casey, the octopus has become a familiar presence during Casey’s underwater explorations. She routinely engages with Casey’s camera, demonstrating curiosity and comfort in the diver’s presence. “I have been checking on her for quite a few months, almost daily,” Casey shared with Storyful. “She feels comfortable having me swim alongside her while she hunts for crabs. She will often reach out and explore my camera and give me cuddles.”
A Potential New Chapter
Recently, another octopus, whom Casey has named Andy, was spotted alongside Priscilla. This encounter could signal that Priscilla may soon be preparing to lay eggs. Casey elaborates, “I’m currently making a short film about our incredible friendship and her life, which includes several other Maori Octopuses in the area.”
