FRISCO, Texas – The family of Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old charged with murder following the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, has expressed significant concerns regarding threats directed at them. In a recent news release, the family, supported by the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), revealed that the courts have approved Anthony’s relocation to an undisclosed secure location to ensure his safety.

Background of the Case

Karmelo Anthony is charged in connection with the stabbing of Austin Metcalf, who died following an altercation during a track meet on April 2. Initially held on a $1 million bond, Anthony was released after a bond reduction to $250,000 and is currently under house arrest.

Increasing Threats and Family’s Response

The NGAN reported a troubling rise in threats against the Anthony family, including harassment at their home. This escalation has taken the form of unwanted visitors, harassment, and disturbing acts such as false food deliveries and the distribution of Austin Metcalf’s obituary. The organization noted instances of individuals loitering around the family’s property and attempting to provoke fear.

Dominique Alexander, President of NGAN, stated, “We are sharing images and documentation of the threats the family has faced this past weekend to make the public aware of the dangerous atmosphere that has been created.” The organization emphasized their commitment to protect the family amidst widespread threats, attributing the situation to “organized hate” and “systemic racism.”

Recent Rally and Community Response

A recent rally held at Kuykendall Stadium attracted attention, organized by Jake Lang, who has a controversial background due to past legal issues. The rally featured slogans such as “Justice for Austin Metcalf” and “Demand Karmelo Anthony be put back in prison until trial.” During the event, tensions escalated, resulting in two arrests, one of whom was charged with pepper-spraying a protester.

Local officials, including Texas Representative Jared Patterson, spoke against the involvement of external agitators and praised the Frisco Police Department for their management of the situation, underscoring the community’s resilience against division and hate.

In the aftermath of the rally, Lang was charged with trespassing after he allegedly broke into Kuykendall Stadium to film what he claimed was the site of Austin Metcalf’s death. Frisco ISD authorities confirmed that they are cooperating with police in this ongoing investigation.
