On July 26, 2025, the village of Riverside Heights officially opened its new Riverfront Park, celebrating with ribbon-cutting ceremonies, community performances, and strong public attendance. The park, located along the Hudson River, provides the community with walking trails, public art installations, playgrounds, and picnic areas designed to offer serene river views and recreational opportunity.
The project, which cost $12 million, was financed through a combination of local municipal bonds and private grant funding. Local officials emphasized that the investment reflects Riverside Heights’s long-term commitment to sustaining accessible green space and strengthening civic pride.

Riverfront Park spans approximately 18 acres of newly developed waterfront land. Mayor Linda Prescott said the new park “marks a milestone in our town’s evolution—one that reflects the value we place on community, recreation, and sustainable development.” Parks and Recreation Director Johan Reyes noted, “This park was built for all residents—young and old—to enjoy the riverfront safely and serenely.” Local resident Tara Nguyen expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “Walking by the Hudson is unbelievable. Having a proper park, with playgrounds and trails, right here is transformative.”
This initiative is part of a broader regional movement in which towns along the Hudson River are revitalizing waterfront areas. Once home to industrial zones or neglected parcels, these riverfronts are being transformed into accessible public spaces that promote recreation, environmental health, and community gathering.
The park’s development was guided by sustainability and accessibility goals. Landscaping features native plant species to support the local ecosystem, while permeable paving and soft-surface trails help manage stormwater and reduce runoff. All walkways and facilities meet ADA standards, ensuring that people of all abilities can enjoy the space.
Officials plan to host a wide variety of events at the park throughout the year, from farmers’ markets and cultural festivals to outdoor fitness classes and live music.
