New York City — The New York Philharmonic announced on Saturday its plans to launch a free summer concert series, bringing world-class performances to all five boroughs. The series, set to begin in late June, will feature a diverse program ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary works.

“This is about making music accessible to everyone,” said Philharmonic President Deborah Borda. “Whether you’re in Staten Island or the Bronx, we want to bring the joy of live music to your neighborhood.”

The series will kick off in Central Park with a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, followed by concerts in parks, plazas, and community centers throughout the city. The orchestra has also partnered with local schools and cultural organizations to host workshops and educational events.

City officials praised the initiative as a way to foster community and promote the arts. “The Philharmonic is one of our city’s treasures,” said Cultural Affairs Commissioner Laurie Cumbo. “This series will inspire and unite New Yorkers from all walks of life.”

Funding for the series comes from a mix of philanthropic donations and city grants, with the goal of making it an annual tradition.

For conductor Gustavo Dudamel, who recently assumed leadership of the orchestra, the series represents a chance to connect with the city on a deeper level. “Music has the power to heal and bring people together,” he said. “That’s what this is all about.”
