New York’s Revolving Restaurant, The View, Reopens with a Modern Twist

New York City’s iconic revolving restaurant, The View, has reopened atop the Marriott Marquis in Times Square after a significant redesign. Renowned restaurateur Danny Meyer and Union Square Hospitality Group have revitalized the space, offering a refined dining experience that pays homage to its 1985 origins. The restaurant now features elegant interiors by designer David Rockwell and a menu crafted by executive chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley. Guests can enjoy panoramic views of the city while savoring elevated comfort food in a sophisticated setting.

A Historic Venue Reimagined

The View, located on the 47th and 48th floors of the New York Marriott Marquis, has been a staple in the city’s dining scene since its opening in 1985. Known for its 360-degree rotating dining room, the restaurant offers diners a unique perspective of Manhattan’s skyline. However, the restaurant had been closed since 2020 due to the pandemic and subsequent renovations.

In late 2024, Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG), led by Danny Meyer, took over operations of The View. Meyer, known for his successful ventures such as Union Square Café and Shake Shack, aimed to transform the space into a destination that appeals to both locals and tourists. The renovation was a collaboration with the Rockwell Group, led by designer David Rockwell, who drew inspiration from the nearby Broadway Theater District to create an atmosphere that is both contemporary and nostalgic.

Culinary Excellence Under Chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley

At the helm of The View’s kitchen is executive chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley, a seasoned culinary professional with experience at notable establishments such as Roofers Union and Ripple in Washington, D.C. Chef Meek-Bradley has crafted a menu that reimagines American classics with a modern twist. Dishes include a raw bar selection, beef tartare, tuna carpaccio, blue crab cakes, prime rib, and lobster spaghetti. Desserts like butterscotch pudding and chocolate devil’s food cake add a sweet finish to the meal.

The restaurant offers a prix-fixe menu, allowing guests to experience a curated selection of dishes that showcase the culinary team’s expertise. The 48th-floor bar and lounge, which completes a full 360-degree rotation every 45 minutes, serves as an ideal spot for pre-dinner drinks or casual bites. The main dining room on the 47th floor rotates once per hour, providing diners with ever-changing views of the city.

Design That Elevates the Dining Experience

The Rockwell Group’s redesign of The View focuses on enhancing the dining experience through thoughtful design elements. The interiors feature rich materials such as burl wood, Venetian plaster, antique mirrors, and deep velvet blue drapery, reminiscent of stage curtains. These elements create a setting that feels both luxurious and inviting. The layout has been carefully planned to ensure that guests can enjoy the rotating views without feeling disoriented.

The design also pays homage to the restaurant’s history while embracing a new era of hospitality. The goal was to create a space that feels like a “stage and viewing platform,” where the experience is as much about the ambiance and design as it is about the food and service.

A New Chapter for Times Square Dining

The reopening of The View marks a significant moment in New York City’s dining scene. It represents a blend of tradition and innovation, offering a dining experience that is both familiar and fresh. By focusing on quality cuisine, exceptional service, and a thoughtfully designed environment, The View aims to reclaim its status as a premier dining destination in the heart of Times Square.

Reservations are now open for both the bar and dining areas. Whether you’re a local looking for a unique dining experience or a visitor seeking to enjoy the city’s skyline from above, The View offers an unforgettable setting to savor great food and drink.
