New York City, November 10, 2024 — In honor of Veterans Day, New York City’s top museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of Modern Art, announced free admission for all veterans and active-duty military personnel this weekend. The initiative is part of the city’s effort to recognize and celebrate those who have served.
Special exhibits have been curated to honor military history, including the Met’s new installation, Art of War: A History of Courage Through Conflict. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is also hosting a series of events, including guided tours led by veteran docents.
“This is our way of saying thank you to the men and women who have given so much to our country,” said NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Alejandro Torres.
Veterans expressed gratitude for the initiative. “It’s wonderful to see the city embracing us in such a meaningful way,” said Army veteran Thomas Blake, who visited the Met with his family.
The program has drawn thousands of visitors and is expected to continue through Monday, November 11. City officials hope it will encourage greater public appreciation for veterans’ contributions and sacrifices.
