New York City, November 11, 2024 — New York City paid tribute to its veterans today with the annual Veterans Day Parade, the nation’s largest celebration of military service. Tens of thousands of spectators lined Fifth Avenue to honor the contributions and sacrifices of America’s service members.

The parade featured over 20,000 participants, including veterans from every branch of the armed forces, active-duty service members, and marching bands. This year’s theme, Saluting Women in the Military, highlighted the contributions of female veterans, with retired Navy Admiral Linda Gonzalez serving as the parade’s Grand Marshal.

“It’s a privilege to honor the brave men and women who have served our nation,” said Mayor Eric Adams, who attended the event alongside Governor Kathy Hochul and other dignitaries.

In addition to the parade, solemn ceremonies were held at the Eternal Light Flagstaff in Madison Square Park and at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Wreaths were laid, and moments of silence observed, to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Veterans expressed gratitude for the recognition and camaraderie. “It’s a day to remember our shared service and the bonds that unite us,” said Army veteran Marcus Turner. The city also offered free transportation and meals to veterans at participating restaurants, ensuring a warm and inclusive celebration.
