A new Chili’s restaurant is set to open in Dickson City, just six miles north of Scranton, Pennsylvania, making it a significant moment for fans of the beloved television series “The Office.” This opening is particularly momentous as it marks the first Chili’s location in the Scranton area, bringing a piece of the show’s fictional universe into reality.

The introduction of this restaurant has nostalgic ties to the iconic second-season episode of “The Office,” where Michael Scott, portrayed by Steve Carell, hosted the comical Dundie Awards at a Chili’s. In this episode, Pam Beesly, played by Jenna Fischer, famously exclaims, “I feel God in this Chili’s tonight,” after winning the award for the “whitest sneakers.” Her character was humorously banned from all Chili’s locations after a series of mishaps, though the chain later lifted the ban in 2017, declaring her welcome back.

In a nod to the mid-2000s, the new Chili’s will feature decor reminiscent of the time, including vintage signage and chalkboard art. Furthermore, it will include references to the fictitious paper company, Dunder Mifflin. Notably, the restaurant will reintroduce the “Awesome Blossom”—a deep-fried onion appetizer with cheese dipping sauce—specifically for this location, as it had been removed from Chili’s menus nationwide.

The grand opening of the restaurant is scheduled for April 7. To celebrate, Chili’s plans to offer a special “Scranton marg” available nationwide for that day. Fans can also expect appearances in promotional materials from some original cast members of “The Office,” including Brian Baumgartner, who portrayed Kevin Malone, and Kate Flannery, known for her role as Meredith Palmer.

Brian Baumgartner expressed his enthusiasm, remarking, “It seems like a wrong was righted here at around the 20th anniversary of the show to finally have a Scranton branch of Chili’s.” This sentiment captures the collective excitement among fans and locals who have long wished for a Chili’s to share their love for “The Office.”
