The View Restaurant in Times Square Reopens with a Fresh Perspective

New York City’s only revolving restaurant, The View, has officially reopened its doors after a comprehensive redesign. Situated atop the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square, The View now offers an elevated dining experience with sweeping 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline. The renovation, which began in late 2024, was spearheaded by renowned restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) and acclaimed designer David Rockwell of Rockwell Group.

A Storied Venue Reimagined

Originally opened in 1985, The View had long been a fixture in New York City’s dining scene. However, the restaurant had been closed for several years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent renovations. The recent reopening marks a significant transformation, aiming to blend the venue’s rich history with modern sophistication.

David Rockwell’s redesign pays homage to the restaurant’s origins while infusing it with contemporary elements. The interiors feature deep blue velvet drapery, shimmering Venetian plaster, and metallic finishes that capture the dynamism of Times Square. The design concept positions the space as both a stage and a viewing platform, reflecting the vibrancy of the Theater District below.

Culinary Excellence Under New Leadership

At the helm of The View’s culinary program is Executive Chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley, a seasoned chef known for her work in Washington, D.C., and New York City. Chef Meek-Bradley brings a fresh perspective to the menu, offering elevated American classics with a modern twist. Signature dishes include a succulent crab cake, a refined take on peas and carrots, and a towering chocolate cake for dessert.

The beverage program, led by Beverage Director Ricky Dolinsky, complements the menu with a thoughtfully curated selection of wines and cocktails. The 48th-floor lounge offers a more casual setting with a vibrant atmosphere, while the main dining room below provides a more formal dining experience.

A Unique Dining Experience

The View’s most distinctive feature remains its revolving floors. The 48th-floor lounge completes a full 360-degree rotation every 45 minutes, while the main dining room on the 47th floor rotates once per hour. This unique aspect allows diners to enjoy panoramic views of the city without leaving their seats.

While the rotating feature adds a dynamic element to the dining experience, it also presents certain challenges. The restaurant’s design includes a non-rotating central column that houses the kitchen and restrooms, which can be disorienting for guests unfamiliar with the layout.

A Destination for Locals and Tourists Alike

The reopening of The View aims to attract both locals and tourists seeking a unique dining experience in the heart of Manhattan. By combining elegant design, exceptional cuisine, and unparalleled views, The View aspires to reclaim its status as a premier dining destination in New York City.

Reservations are now open for both the lounge and dining room. Guests are encouraged to book in advance, as the restaurant is expected to be a popular choice for both residents and visitors to the city.
