Germaine Pratt Signs One-Year Deal with Las Vegas Raiders to Bolster Defense

Las Vegas, NV — Linebacker Germaine Pratt has signed a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, the team announced on June 11. The deal is reportedly valued at $4.25 million, with an additional $500,000 in playing-time incentives, bringing the total potential value to $4.75 million . Pratt, 29, joins the Raiders after a six-season tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals.

A Proven Defensive Asset

Pratt’s arrival in Las Vegas is expected to strengthen the Raiders’ linebacker corps, which has undergone significant changes this offseason. The team has added veterans Elandon Roberts and Devin White, while parting ways with Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo . Pratt’s experience and leadership are anticipated to provide stability and depth to the unit.

During the 2024 season, Pratt started all 17 games for the Bengals, recording a career-high 143 tackles, along with two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries . Over his six-year career, he has amassed 616 total tackles, seven interceptions, seven forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, 23 passes defensed, and 3.5 sacks in 96 games (88 starts) .

A Familiar Foe Becomes an Ally

Pratt is perhaps best known for his game-sealing interception of Derek Carr in the 2021 AFC Wild Card Round, which secured the Bengals’ first playoff victory in 31 years—a win that came against his new team, the Raiders . Now, he joins Las Vegas under head coach Pete Carroll and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, aiming to bring his playmaking abilities to a defense in transition.

Strategic Fit and Expectations

The Raiders’ decision to sign Pratt aligns with their broader strategy to revamp the defense with experienced talent. Pratt’s versatility and consistency make him a valuable addition, particularly as the team seeks to improve its defensive rankings in the competitive AFC West.

While some fans have criticized Pratt’s move as financially motivated, the Raiders view the signing as a strategic acquisition to enhance their defensive capabilities . Pratt’s familiarity with high-stakes games and his proven track record suggest he will play a significant role in the Raiders’ defensive schemes.

As the Raiders prepare for the upcoming season, Pratt’s integration into the defense will be closely watched. His performance could be a key factor in the team’s efforts to return to playoff contention.
