NYC Extends Holiday Shopping Hours to Boost Local Businesses

To support small businesses during the holiday season, New York City announced extended shopping hours for local stores in popular retail districts. Participating businesses in areas like SoHo, Harlem, and Flushing will remain open until 10 PM on weekdays and midnight on weekends through December 24.

The initiative, led by the Department of Small Business Services (SBS), includes promotional campaigns encouraging residents to “shop small” and support neighborhood stores. “Every dollar spent locally strengthens our communities,” said SBS Commissioner Kevin Kim.

Retailers welcomed the move, noting the challenges posed by online competition. “This gives us a much-needed boost during the busiest time of the year,” said Linda Park, owner of a boutique in Brooklyn.

The city has also waived parking fees in designated shopping districts to encourage foot traffic and make it easier for residents to shop locally.
