New York City, November 3, 2024 — The streets of New York were alive with cheers today as the 2024 New York City Marathon delivered unforgettable moments, including record-breaking performances and an overwhelming display of community spirit. Elite runner Kipchoge Kipruto set a new course record in the men’s race, finishing in 2:05:34, while Peres Jepchirchir defended her title with an impressive 2:22:15.
The new wheelchair relay category brought added excitement, with Team USA claiming victory in the debut race. “This was a groundbreaking addition to the marathon, and we’re thrilled with the response,” said NYRR President Paul Vincent.
Spectators lined the route in the millions, waving flags, holding signs, and providing encouragement to runners. Many participants ran for charity, raising millions for causes ranging from cancer research to education.
This year’s marathon also saw the successful integration of sustainability initiatives, with solar-powered hydration stations and biodegradable race bibs. “It’s amazing to see how this event continues to innovate while staying true to its roots,” said spectator Maria Gonzalez.
The day concluded with a celebratory concert in Central Park, featuring headliner Alicia Keys. “This marathon is about more than running—it’s about what makes New York City great,” Keys told the crowd.
