As flu season approaches, the New York City Department of Health announced the opening of over 300 free vaccination clinics across the five boroughs. The campaign, which runs through December, aims to increase vaccination rates and prevent strain on the healthcare system.
Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan urged residents to get vaccinated early, especially children, seniors, and individuals with chronic health conditions. “Getting your flu shot is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your loved ones,” Vasan said during a press conference in the Bronx.
The city’s vaccination campaign includes partnerships with pharmacies, community health centers, and mobile units to reach underserved neighborhoods. Clinics will offer extended hours, and residents can schedule appointments online or walk in.
Public awareness efforts include multilingual advertising and outreach through schools, workplaces, and religious organizations. “We’re making it as easy as possible for New Yorkers to access this life-saving vaccine,” Vasan said.
Officials are also monitoring the overlap of flu season with other respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. Residents are encouraged to take preventive measures, such as wearing masks in crowded spaces and practicing good hygiene.
