New York City announced the expansion of its holiday market program today, bringing festive pop-up markets to underserved neighborhoods in all five boroughs. The initiative, led by the Department of Small Business Services (SBS), aims to support local artisans and small businesses while providing holiday shopping opportunities closer to home.
The new markets will feature over 300 vendors selling handmade crafts, specialty foods, and holiday gifts, alongside live entertainment and family-friendly activities. “Holiday markets are more than just shopping—they’re about community,” said SBS Commissioner Kevin Kim at the opening of a new market in the Bronx.
Residents expressed excitement about having markets closer to their neighborhoods. “I used to have to go to Manhattan for these kinds of events, but now it’s right here,” said Jamila Ortiz, a resident of East Harlem.
The city has also partnered with local schools and nonprofits to offer free workshops at the markets, including ornament-making and cookie-decorating classes for children. The markets will operate through December 24.
