New York City, November 21, 2024 — Mayor Eric Adams announced a $1 billion Green Jobs Training initiative today, aimed at preparing New Yorkers for careers in renewable energy, urban sustainability, and climate resilience. The program, set to launch in January 2025, will prioritize underserved communities and create pathways for employment in the rapidly growing green economy.

Speaking at a press conference in Brooklyn, Adams emphasized the importance of investing in workforce development to meet the city’s ambitious climate goals. “Green jobs are the future, and this initiative ensures that all New Yorkers have the skills to succeed in this new economy,” he said.

The initiative includes partnerships with local community colleges, trade unions, and environmental organizations. Training programs will focus on solar panel installation, energy-efficient construction, and electric vehicle maintenance, among other areas. Participants will also receive job placement assistance and access to mentorship opportunities.

Advocates praised the initiative for addressing both economic inequality and the climate crisis. “This is a win for workers and the planet,” said environmental activist Sophia Hernandez. Critics, however, urged the city to ensure long-term funding and accountability.

Officials estimate that the program will train 50,000 workers over the next five years, creating a robust pipeline of talent to support New York’s transition to a greener economy.
