NYC Announces Halloween Safety and Celebration Plans

New York City unveiled its Halloween plans today, including expanded safety measures, city-sponsored events, and community programs to ensure a fun and secure holiday for residents. Mayor Eric Adams announced that iconic locations like Central Park, the Bronx Zoo, and Prospect Park will host family-friendly festivities throughout October.

The annual Village Halloween Parade, scheduled for October 31, will feature the theme “Creatures of the Cosmos” and include floats, performers, and live music. Organizers expect more than 2 million spectators to attend the event, which has become one of the city’s signature celebrations.

The NYPD announced plans to deploy additional officers to busy neighborhoods and popular trick-or-treating areas, emphasizing crowd management and safety. “Our goal is to ensure that Halloween is safe for everyone, from the youngest trick-or-treaters to the most enthusiastic parade-goers,” said Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell.

Community centers across the boroughs are also hosting smaller-scale events, such as haunted houses, pumpkin carving contests, and costume drives. The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) launched its first-ever “Green Halloween” program, encouraging residents to recycle costumes and decorations.

City officials reminded parents to check candy for tampering, use reflective materials on costumes, and ensure children stay in groups while trick-or-treating. “Halloween is a magical time in New York City, and we want everyone to enjoy it safely,” said Adams.
