The city launched an expanded free childcare program today to help working parents during the holiday season. The program, offered at 100 community centers across the city, provides supervised activities for children ages 4-12, including arts and crafts, storytelling, and holiday-themed games.
Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the importance of supporting families during a busy time of year. “The holidays should be a time of joy, not stress,” Adams said during a visit to a center in Brooklyn. “This program gives parents peace of mind and kids a safe, fun space to thrive.”
Parents praised the initiative, noting the high cost of childcare as a barrier during the holiday season. “This is a blessing for working moms like me,” said Rosa Gutierrez, a single mother in Queens.
The program will run through January 2, with registration available on a first-come, first-served basis.
