New York City, July 13, 2024 — Millions of people flooded the streets of Manhattan today for the world’s largest Pride Parade, a dazzling celebration of LGBTQ+ identity, diversity, and equality. The event, which stretched along Fifth Avenue and into Greenwich Village, featured over 300 floats, live performances, and appearances by high-profile activists and celebrities.
This year’s parade theme, “Proud in Progress,” highlighted ongoing battles for LGBTQ+ rights worldwide. Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul marched alongside activists, emphasizing New York’s role as a beacon of equality. “Our city stands with the LGBTQ+ community, not just in celebration, but in solidarity,” Adams said during a rally at the Stonewall Inn.
The parade’s centerpiece was a float honoring LGBTQ+ pioneers, featuring tributes to figures like Marsha P. Johnson and Harvey Milk. Performers, including international pop star Dua Lipa, electrified the crowd with live renditions of anthems like “Born This Way” and “I Will Survive.”
While the event was largely celebratory, it also addressed serious issues, including anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in several U.S. states and abroad. Advocacy groups called for continued vigilance and action to protect the rights of marginalized communities.
