The New York Public Library (NYPL), Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), and Queens Public Library (QPL) announced today a significant expansion of their multilingual programs to better serve New York City’s diverse communities. The initiative includes offering books, workshops, and digital resources in over 50 languages.
New programs will focus on language learning, cultural storytelling, and bilingual support for students and families. “Libraries are gateways to opportunity, and we want every New Yorker to feel at home here, regardless of their language,” said NYPL President Tony Marx.
The libraries also introduced an online platform where users can access eBooks, audiobooks, and learning tools in their native languages. Additionally, staff training will ensure librarians can assist patrons in multiple languages.
Community leaders praised the effort, highlighting the importance of inclusion in public spaces. “This initiative bridges gaps and fosters understanding,” said Jessica Lee, a community organizer in Queens.
The expanded services will roll out in November, with library branches hosting events to celebrate the program’s launch.
