New York City — The city will host its first-ever Global Climate Tech Summit in September 2024, Mayor Eric Adams announced on Wednesday. The event, set to take place at the Javits Center, will bring together innovators, policymakers, and investors to explore cutting-edge solutions to the climate crisis.
The summit will feature keynote speakers including former Vice President Al Gore, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and environmental activist Greta Thunberg. Over 200 startups from around the world are expected to showcase technologies ranging from carbon capture to renewable energy innovations.
“This summit puts New York City at the forefront of the global fight against climate change,” said Adams. “We’re bringing the best minds together to tackle one of humanity’s greatest challenges.”
The event aligns with the city’s broader sustainability goals, including achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Organizers aim to highlight practical, scalable solutions while fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors.
While the announcement has been met with enthusiasm, some environmentalists cautioned that the summit must prioritize action over rhetoric. “New York City has an opportunity to lead, but we need real commitments, not just talk,” said Jane Delano of the Green Future Alliance.
