The annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony dazzled New Yorkers tonight, with a crowd of more than 50,000 gathering to witness the iconic event. This year’s tree, a 78-foot Norway spruce from upstate New York, was adorned with over 50,000 LED lights and topped with a 900-pound Swarovski crystal star.
The ceremony featured performances by Mariah Carey, John Legend, and the Rockettes, with the festivities broadcast live to millions worldwide. “This is a night that brings the city and the world together in the spirit of joy and unity,” said Mayor Eric Adams, who flipped the switch to light the tree.
Local businesses reported a surge in foot traffic, with many holiday shoppers and tourists flocking to Midtown Manhattan. Security was tight, with the NYPD deploying extra officers to manage the crowds and ensure safety.
The tree will remain lit through early January, continuing its role as a centerpiece of NYC’s holiday season.
