The 2026 Great New York State Fair officially opened Wednesday, August 26, in Syracuse, bringing one of New York’s largest annual public events back to the Central New York region. The 13-day event runs through Labor Day, September 7, at the New York State Fairgrounds, offering visitors a combination of agricultural exhibitions, live entertainment, food, competitions, educational displays and family activities.
Founded in 1841, the Great New York State Fair is recognized as the oldest state fair in the United States. Over nearly two centuries, the event has developed into an important annual gathering for New Yorkers and visitors from outside the state.
