With just two days until New Year’s Eve, New York City is finalizing preparations for its iconic Times Square celebration, which is expected to draw more than 1.5 million attendees. The event, featuring the annual ball drop, live performances, and a dazzling fireworks display, remains one of the world’s most-watched celebrations.
Mayor Eric Adams joined Times Square Alliance President Tom Harris to inspect the site and discuss security plans. “New York City is ready to welcome the world to Times Square,” Adams said. “This year’s celebration will be safer, bigger, and brighter than ever.”
The NYPD will deploy thousands of officers, drones, and security cameras to ensure public safety, while metal detectors and bag checks will be enforced at all entry points. The FDNY and EMS teams will be stationed throughout the area to respond to any emergencies.
Performances by global stars like Taylor Swift and BTS are set to draw record crowds, with millions more watching the live broadcast. “This is the ultimate stage for ringing in the new year,” said Harris. “It’s a celebration of hope and renewal.”
Officials urged attendees to arrive early, dress warmly, and use public transportation to avoid traffic congestion. The event will also include accessible viewing zones and accommodations for people with disabilities.
