The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) launched its Year-End Sanitation Blitz today, deploying hundreds of workers to clean streets, parks, and public spaces across all five boroughs. The initiative, aimed at preparing the city for New Year’s Eve celebrations and the influx of visitors, will focus on high-traffic areas like Times Square, Central Park, and downtown Brooklyn.

Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch emphasized the importance of a clean city to kick off the new year. “New York City is at the center of the world’s New Year celebrations, and we’re making sure it shines,” Tisch said at a press conference in Union Square. The cleanup effort includes sweeping, graffiti removal, and increased trash collection in neighborhoods hosting large holiday events.

Residents praised the blitz, with many noticing cleaner streets and public spaces. “It’s a small thing that makes a big difference,” said Angela Perez, a Queens resident. “The city feels ready for the new year.”

DSNY also announced plans to handle the massive cleanup following New Year’s Eve celebrations, where an estimated 3,000 sanitation workers will collect over 50 tons of confetti, party hats, and other debris from Times Square.
